GTA hack opens possibility for ScummVM on 2.5/2.6?

Post by morphose »

Hi.

According to PSP3D they have been able to run "hello world" and a port of Tetris via a sploit or something found in the GTA game.

Do you guys think it will be possible to run ScummVM via this?

That would be totally awsome.

Can't wait to get monkey island running on my PSP :)

I'm hoping it will be possible. I guess the only way to find out is if someone is able to try it using the info that's available.

yeah I guess we will see a lot of activity around this the upcoming days.
I should go fetch a copy of GTA before it's too late hehe.

I still haven't finished Amazon Queen either and that would be fun to do on the subway to work lol.

Looking at the hack a bit further, it seems the maximum executable size for to run via the ahck is around 64KB. I guess ScummVM is just a little bit larger than that ;) But as with all hacks, these clever people will never give up and this restriction may eventually become irrelevant.

64k would be more than enough to bootstrap a loader.

I don't think we ourselves will investigate this sensitive area. Rather we will wait until ready for developers solution will be published.

according to psp3d.com, some guy has managed to port tetris to 2,5 (2,6 not fully working as of yet, but on its way) via the GTA hack.
Good news!

Fanjita has successfully booted Tetris on 2.5 via his eBoot Loader so its only a matter of time before he releases this.

Then the standard ScummVM for 2.00 SHOULD work fine on 2.01 and 2.50 using the new eboot loader. So really the ScummVM team might not have to do anything at all.

I read somewhere, that not all Eboots will work with the new loader. But i don't know if it was Fanjitas. Since i'm quite noobish, i might have misunderstood.

Oh, hello everyone, by the way.

There is only 1 eboot loader this is the one by Fanjita.

Speaking of Fanjita he has just today announced tetris is working on 2.6 so now homebrew can be run and any and all firmware versions!!!

The eboot loader is yet to be released but the tetris game is proof of concept.

Beat you by 20 minutes 8)

Fanjita has also released a GTA Savegame dev kit for developers to port their homebrew programs to 2.01/2.5/2.6

BUT you guys at ScummVM don't have to port ScummVM-PSP you could just wait till the eboot loader is released but if you have time a proper port by yourselves could work better in the long run.
