Can't get Monkey Island 3 to work on XP

Post by tongs »

Hi guys, I can't seem to get Monkey Island 3 working on ScummVM. I'm positive I have it set up correctly with all the right files copied from the CD into a folder. But when I start the game through ScummVM I get this error:

(0:1:0x1B3): findObjectInRoom: Not enough image blocks in room 3!

I have no idea what this means or how to fix it, and I haven't been able to find any information about this error online. I'm hoping someone here can help me figure this out. Any assistance is greatly appreciated (I'm dying to play this game again!).

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately that didn't seem to work. Is there a problem with the CDs themselves maybe? If I try to install normally it crashes halfway through loading the installer. Although I remember it worked years ago when I played it on Windows 95...

Something tells me I'm out of luck unless I can find a really old computer.

If your discs are damaged then you're out of luck even trying on an old computer. Luckily though Lucasarts have rereleased COMI as a classic title, and interestingly enough it's playable without any tinkering under XP.

The CDs are a bit scratched up, so maybe that's what it is. I'll have to look for that re-release... thanks for the help you guys.

Have you tried using a tool like IsoBuster, to recover the files from the scratched CDs?

Did you get it working? I've just asked a similar question and some arrogant kid locked my post (not like it's a busy site). I'm been searching for help on this game with no luck so have had to post on "help and support" like you.

"Some arrogant kid"? You've got some nerve calling people you don't know "arrogant" and "kids". Here's is the thread in question:
http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=5896

and since you didn't bother reading the ground rules, let me type the relevant bit again, for your convenience. WE DO NOT GIVE SUPPORT FOR ILLEGALLY DOWNLOADED GAMES (aka warez). Got it now? Good. Go buy the game now

Your problem has nothing to do with the problem in this thread. And as for "not being a busy site", that's probably because not many people play old adventure games, they like mindless modern 3D shooters far better, it seems...

First time on here Gonzo and I've got to agree with you I hate them all, it would be better if they just ignore that act like kids, stay clear of them and their dying program that runs out of life after a week or so.

Email me if you want any help at all.

Ah hello "blackbird" aka "gonzouk". Hint: next time, when you bother to create a new account, don't do it from the same IP address, shortly after your last post. So if you want to mail yourself for your problem, feel free to, I'm sure you and yourself will have a lovely chat :)

And a warm welcome to you, too.
Though you do share the same IP with gonzouk... Hmmm...

Ooooh, you hate us all. Do we have to be afraid now? Or sad?
blackbird wrote:it would be better if they just ignore that act like kids
We're acting like kids because we protect ourselves from being connected with warez? Something that could bring our project to a nasty, judicial end? Something that would end our good standings with several game companies?

Or are maybe rather you act like a kid, by opening a second account just to slander, to give a false sense of approval just to stroke your own ego?

Questions upon questions...

Damn you guys are clever, I should if rebooted my Cisco router, I give up with ScummVM just wanted Monkey 3 to work. Just wanted to help out a few friends with their ScummVM issues but will warn them off it and as a recommendation and get them to do the same.

Have a heart and help in the future don't create wars :) you will feel much better. Don't waste you time and reply as I imagine I have made a valid point which has got to you.

Well, the real point still is that you've asked support for warez, which are illegal.
In other words: Warez are bad, hmmkay?

What you should advice them to do is actually buying the games.
