On that note, I, being somewhat reluctant towards using archives in my Scumm data tree, try to keep all my data outside of the box (this way, I can hard-link files and save more space). Will you add support for zip archives?
We will not do it. There are two main reasons for that. First, we believe that it would ease illegal distribution of games. Second, we already support compression of sound & speech in most larger titles, and use specially designed algorithms like MP3, Ogg and FLAC, so you can already reduce the size of the data files.
We as a team already discussed that question. We can't absolutely exclude the possibility of changing our mind one day in the future, but for now, we have no intentions to do so, hence please don't ask us about it!
--FAQs
I downloaded the ARJ-packed files for the internationalized versions of Drascula, and extracted them into four separate directories, each time overwriting a copy of the original unpacked files.
While this worked for creating separate game directories for the French (PACKET.002), German (PACKET.003), and Spanish (PACKET.004) versions, the Italian (PACKET.005) version is giving me trouble.
First, it won't detect the game in that directory. Second, it gives me this error message when I modify ~/.scummvmrc to point to it:
Code: Select all
User picked target 'drascula-it' (gameid 'drascula')...
Looking for a plugin supporting this gameid... Drascula Engine
Starting 'Drascula: The Vampire Strikes Back'
Your game version appears to be unknown. Please, report the following
data to the ScummVM team along with name of the game you tried to add
and its version/language/etc.:
"14.ald", "ccaee939bb3b344c048f28f9205710d1", 2925
So tell me, what are the correct (unarchived) files that need to be present in order for the Italian version to work?
