Dryer joke in DOTT

All the inane chatter goes in here. If you're curious about whether we will support a game, post HERE not in General Discussion :)

Dryer joke in DOTT

Post by Robot_Maker20 »

Just for a bit of pedantic fun, I decided to see if the writers of DOTT really bothered to do their maths properly - turns out, they probably did!

<implicit puzzle spoiler>

Bernard remarks that he reckons the mountain of quarters to be about 876600 dollars worth of quarters - if you divide by the amount of time between present and future in the game, 200 years (taking account of leap years, no less, so 365.25 days per year), it works out to exactly one dollar for two hours of dryer time, so one quarter will buy you 30 minutes, consistent with the sign on the wall of the laundry. I just love it when game designers really go in for details like that.

Hmm, yes.... but....
876600 dollars worth of quarters would;

- Take about (((876600 * 4) / 60) / 60) / 24 ~= 40 days to put in the machine if Bernard would do one coin per second nonstop.
- Weigh about ((5.67000 * 876 600 * 4) / 1 000) /1000 ~= 20 Megagrams if one quarter is indeed 5.670 grams like Wikipedia says.

Bernard has some secret superhuman powers, I tell you. No wonder he could count the coins so fast.
Makes you wander how well the mansion is build to be able to keep that snack machine upstairs too :)
