I'm seeing a lot posts saying things like this:
"Broken Sword Sold-Out Edition doesn't work with ScummVM."
But I'm also seeing posts say it does work with ScummVM and that the Sold-Out Edition comes with ScummVM. Which is correct?

I must have missed those.Mud wrote:I'm seeing a lot posts saying things like this:

I don't have the DVD release so I don't know anything about that, though I'm told it includes ScummVM so I don't see why it wouldn't work. It probably contains the lower-quality MPEG cutscenes, but those could be easily replaced I guess.Mud wrote: But I'm also seeing posts say it does work with ScummVM and that the Sold-Out Edition comes with ScummVM. Sold-Out's individual 2-disc releases of Broken Sword 1 and Broken Sword 2 work fine for me. Since they're so common, they may very well be the most well-tested releases of those games.

If I recall correctly the Sold Out titles do use MPEG.
I try to be careful when downloading anything, although I don't personally have an ISP set limit.
I guess what I'm saying is I don't download anything but I'd heard the dxas and flacs were better and I have to agree.
The dxas just seem to look a lot more vibrant.

The 2-disc releases use the original Smacker cutscenes (which ScummVM can't play).Red_Breast wrote:If I recall correctly the Sold Out titles do use MPEG.
Both the MPEG and DXA cutscenes are created from the original cutscenes, of course, but the MPEG ones use lossy compression, while the DXA ones are lossless.Red_Breast wrote:I guess what I'm saying is I don't download anything but I'd heard the dxas and flacs were better and I have to agree.

In other words, the DXA ones should look exactly like the originals. The MPEG ones don't.
