BASS and my DS

I recently had the urge to play BASS again on my DS Lite, but upon starting it I realized the sound is garbage. All the vocals and music are there, but the vocals begin getting rather distored when at a decent volume, and the music sounds little like it does when I play on my Mac via scumm. Now, I know the speakers aren't the culprit. I've plugged in headphones and had the same result. I'm guessing the emulation isn't quite up to the task on the DS for clean, crisp sound? Is there anything I can do to my CD version of the game to process sound at a higher quality? Thanks.

Is "High Quality Audio" turned on and are you on the Software scaler? Both options could effect the sound - and the gameplay - greatly. Try turning HQA off and switching to the Hardware scaler, lower graphical quality, mind.
