FreeSCI SCI engine implementation has been merged in

Post by sev »

Well, it is true. FreeSCI code now lives under engines/sci.

Most attentive users who watch our development list perhaps noticed that there exists yet another SCI1 engine implementation made from scratch. But for the benefit of everyone it was decided that the joint effort is much better.

Of course, don't expect any magic from it. First, the engine is not announced as supported yet. It is in early stages of integration. Then, you should keep in mind that after the merge will settle down, only SCI0, SCI01 and SCI1 games will be supported. However, due to the fact that some of ScummVM developers are interested in SCI development for some time now, we look forward to speeding up the work on the engine.

In the meantime, please, help us some more with 0.13.0 version playtesting

And scummvm has just gotten even better... And also 'FreeSCI' will now benefit more and more.. once SCI is completely integrated then Scummvm will be the engine which supports most 80's and 90's top graphical adventure games..

thanx dudes..

errr... I think it's going to be a looong time before you get to play any of those games through ScummVM:D

However, I agree that it is a great thing that the project is evolving in this direction. Go ScummVM, go.

Don't worry Collector, your DosBox installers will be needed for quite some time still;)

Didn't see that coming! Are we sure it's not April in a timezone of a far away galaxy?!

Good to see the convergence and may it be a happy/prosperous one!

Wow, very cool! 8) Look forward to the day when I can play Gabriel Knight with ScummVM! Even though that's probably several years into the future :P

No that long. Just after 0.13.0 release you will be able to at least try the games. The engine will be not release-quality for some time yet, yes.

Just wondering but will it be added to a release when each engine revision is complete or when all games are playable?

As usual, once at least one game will be completable without major glitches.

Great news! Can't wait to test some SCI games.

Now, after the merge of AGI and FreeSCI to ScummVM, how about renaming the whole project to CABAL?
