How do I leave the inventory in Sam & Max?

Whenever I go into the inventory in Sam and Max I can't get the cursor close enough to the side of the screen to exit it. (I assume thats why I can't exit it)

I'm using a DS Phat. I'm pointing this out just in case the touchscreen has different boundaries from the DS Lite.

When i play sam and max, and i go into the inventory, i click on the icon of the inventory box that is located at the top of the selection screen, to the right of the talk and grab icons
