Monkey Island 2 copy protection

Post by Luther »

Just launched Monkey Island 2 for the first time and it runs some 'copy protection' program asking for ingredients to a recipe. I have the original Windows CD (MI1 and 2 double pack) I bought years ago but nothing is mentioned about this in the booklet... has anyone else had the same thing?

Originally, LucasArts included some sort of code wheel where you had to look up the answer. In later re-releases they didn't (perhaps it was too expensive to manufacture), and instead changed the interpreter to bypass the copy protection screen. Unfortunately, that also bypassed the difficulty selection screen. ScummVM compromises: It shows the copy protection screen, but accepts any numbers as correct.

I don't have an iPhone, so I don't know how to enter the codes. My common sense says, "It's a phone; surely you can enter numbers into it", but common sense has very little to do with phones these days. :)
