Can the Win32 build be made portable?

Post by marzipan »

I mentioned this in another thread, but if ScummVM implemented something simple like a dummy-file detection to determine where savegames and configs should be saved (similar to what's implemented in foobar2000 and GetDiz), then it would surely help out all those who run their builds off flash drives and take over from the seemingly-long-deceased PScummVM. :)

I assume this sort of idea is too late now to make 1.0.0 however?

You can set up where saved games are placed in scummvm.ini. ScummVM is already "portable" (in the sense of carrying it around in a USB stick), it's also on portableapps.com:

Use -c and point to a scummvm.ini on your flash drive.
You can change all the game paths in scummvm.ini to relative, so it should work, no matter what letter is assigned to your flash drive.
