It may be just me, but I find it hard to start helping with ScummVM. You can't modify the code directly (that's a good thing) but it's unclear to me how to help coding.
We have the SF patchtracker, feature tracker and bug tracker. But als the forum, scumm-dev mailinglist and IRC channel.
And simplex forms of communications; the website, the wiki and the IRC Logs.
If I just want to fix a typo or something else trivial (not patch worthy).
E.g. scummvm\scummvm\trunk\engines\scumm\debugger.cpp line 509 there should be a "\n" after "channels:" so that all channels are neatly listed below eachother.
how do I go about that?

I think that it would be a good idea to come on the IRC channel to discuss a little.
You should also start thinking how you plan to contribute: which engine, or which open task in the ToDo List...
I hope this answers some of your questions... And see you soon on the IRC channel !
