Hi guys, Im new to all this but not new to Monkey Island, I had them both (1 and 2) on my Amiga 1200 years ago, I've just downloaded ScummVM and also the Secret of Monkey Island but it doesn't sound anywhere near as good, so Im not getting the 'trip down memory lane' I had hoped for!! It sounds all crap and 'PC speakery' whereas my Amiga 1200 version used to sound much better can anyone direct me to a download that will work on ScummVM of Monkey Island 1 with better sound? It will be much appreciated as I want to play it with a monkey virgin and I cant possibly let her see the inferior version! It will sully her opinion of Monkey forever!!
Thanks in anticipation, I hope you can help me

Re: Secret of Monkey Island - ScummVM question
Well, it doesn't work with ScummVM but LucasArts did release a Special Edition of the game a while back. I've never played that version myself since I don't run Windows, but I'm told it has better sound and graphics than the original. It's being sold on Steam, rather than in a box, so it's a download. That's two out of three of your requirements...daveyboy20 wrote:can anyone direct me to a download that will work on ScummVM of Monkey Island 1 with better sound?

The Special Edition has rerecorded tracks of the original done with live instrumentation. As for 'better', I guess it's a subjective matter. If you must have the Amiga music I guess you are going to have to buy an original copy on ebay.
ScummVM does not support or condone piracy so stop asking for download links at least. It is generally a good idea to read the forum rules before posting on a new board.

When somebody says forum rule 0 did you not go and check forum rule 0?
I thought I'd explain a bit more about the Amiga version.
Up until recently the Amiga version had no sound but that has been sorted out now as far as I can tell.
I don't have the full version of Monkey1 for the Amiga but I have the demo from this site.
I tried it with the last Windows build I downloaded from here dated Oct 13th. No sound.
Then I tried the demo with my own build for Debian. This does have sound. (Although I don't seem to remember turning it on when I changed some options in the configure file.)
Anyway before the Amiga audio was sorted out there was a workaround for it.
The files for the audio in the game are called 'music.dat' and 'sample'dat'.
The Scumm bar, I'll link at the end, has mp3s of the Amiga music. They actually have 3 versions. Two different versions that can be coupled with the files of the PC CDrom version (monkey.000 and monkey.001, some CDs have them as monkey1.000 and monkey1.001) and the other version can be coupled with the Amiga version's files (*.lec and *.lfl)
I happen to like the Amiga sound and I've used the mp3s with my PC CDrom version. One thing I can't remember is if I had to rename them. If you use mp3s they have to be named the right way. The first track has to be titled either 'track2.mp3' or 'track02.mp3' and so on. (Yes you read that right - it's no typo - the first track needs to be named track2.)
