Forum signatures disabled

Hello everybody,

for your information, we just turned off forum signatures.

Unfortunately, the number of spammers (both humans and bots) which try to abuse this forum recently has risen dramatically. Our moderators work hard to identify and remove spam posts and accounts, but these folks are getting quite good at faking "real, harmless" messages. Then after some time the signature of the spam account is changed to contain spam links.

Since it is becoming more and more likely that some posts will slip past our attention (or maybe this already happened), we decided to disable forum signatures, at least for the time being. This seems to be in the best interest of everybody here and on the Internet overall.

Sorry for that, but we hope you understand.

I don't mind this at all, as far as I'm concerned, signatures are annoying. I'm here to read new posts (and reply to them), not to read the same signatures over and over.

Which is why I have the signatures turned off

As long as I can keep my avatar, it's all good.
My sig was only visible in IE6 anyway

cool, yeah these sneaky new spammers are doing the rounds on other boards too. i don't think i ever set up a sig on here, so i'm not too bothered

hehehe bobdevis, while i'm writing this post, i can see your hidden message in the "topic review" thing at the bottom of the page... nice.

There must be a setting I have which means signatures have always been turned off for me. I'm pretty sure that I have never seen signatures on these forums.
