How to pause Broken Sword 1?

Hi! Is there any way/tool to pause Broken Sword1? My English is not so good and I need to switch to dictionary during gameplay, but game captions disappear too quickly. It's not a problem with Broken Sword 2 because there exists "P" key. I tried to use automatic screenshots, but it's too annoying. Now I'm thinking about coding some tool that will suspend/resume main game's thread by hotkey.

I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone bothered to implement pausing in ScummVM's Broken Sword 1 engine.

Did anybody create "PAUSE" for Broken Sword 1?

Not the ideal way but CTRL-F5 works.

edit: and of course I miss the point of why pause is needed in the original post.
