Hello all,
Goodness me, I have been around to many forums observing various engines, reading about them and looking at the pro's and cons recently. Though I didn't so much read about Scumm as I did sign up and start typing away. The reason being is that I know its good, I played all my Broken Swords with Scumm and various other titles. =P However, from a programming angle, I lack alot of knowledge and hope you can help me out, my questions are as follows:
1) What image resolution/size does the Scumm engine support?
2) Which resolution/size would be best for the various supported platforms? Particularly Android and Iphone (I don't know if Scumm supports IPad though, but I am curious)
3) Regarding commercial use, is there a licensing fee, or is it giftware/freeware or something altogether different?
Thankyou so much for your time. I am keen to hear your responses.
Kind regards,
Mark
Edit: The game is a LucasArts/Sierra style 2D Adventure game that I hope to be developing.

Re: Questions about Scumm!
If you mean ScummVM (rather than the SCUMM game engine in particular), I guess it could handle most resolutions you can think of. While the most common ones are 320x200 and 640x480 pixels, there are some games that use oddball resolutions like 496x400 or 640x432 pixels.Umbrasoft wrote: 1) What image resolution/size does the Scumm engine support?
ScummVM is licensed under the GNU General Public License. There should be a copy of the license (usually named "COPYING" or something like that) included with ScummVM. It can (and has) been used commercially, but if you distribute a modified version of it, then that version must also be licensed under the same terms. (Others know the details better than I do, but that's the general gist of it as I understand it.)Umbrasoft wrote: 3) Regarding commercial use, is there a licensing fee, or is it giftware/freeware or something altogether different?
Whether or not ScummVM is a good basis for a new game is debatable. Most of the game engines already in it do not have any development tools available for them. Though I suppose the common code for handling sound, graphics, etc. might be useful.
I have no idea about the remaining question.
